IN SESSION 001: EMILIE

Debuting IN SESSION, we caught up with the homie EMILIE to chat music, pineapple on pizza, and all things creative.

Her 100% productions mix is live now on the Pollen Archive SoundCloud, and it is packed with tracks she’s been working on this year and some all-time favourites. Don’t miss it!

What first got you into music?

I’ve always grown up with music, due to my parents getting me into instruments from a young age. I played drums and trumpet all throughout my schooling years and was involved with bands and orchestras. I then got introduced to producing in my final years of high school, where I learnt the basics, but where I really started locking in and enjoying production was in 2022 after DJing and realising how cool it would be to be able to play my own tunes while DJing.

Fave show(s) you've played?

My favourite show I’ve ever played would have to be my debut international set over in Australia, playing at ‘Dayshift Festival’. It was an honour for this to be my first Australian gig, and it was such an awesome experience.

A couple of other gigs I’d like to mention would also be ‘Electric Circus’ in Perth. The hospitality was amazing, and everyone was so friendly. I felt very welcomed. Also, being able to hand over to Mall Grab at the Auckland Town Hall. That was incredible and such an amazing experience.

Fave artists atm?

My favourite artists at the moment would have to be Main Phase, Osmosis Jones, Skeptic and Interplanetary Criminal.

They are all super talented producers, releasing quality work every time. My all-time favourite would have to be Interplanetary Criminal, though. He has been a main inspiration to me throughout my whole DJing and producing journey.

Pineapple on pizza?

BIG NO, that’s nasty as!

Advice for someone wanting to get into the music scene?

Just be yourself and have fun!

If you’re interested in DJing, come to gigs, familiarise yourself with the community, practise, and send your mixes to promoters. Producing is always a great way to separate yourself as well :)

Fave plug-ins?

It would have to be Pancz at the moment. It really helps tighten my drum groups and allows for transients to hit.
